Improving the health of your Palm Tree
Greetings!
In one of our last video blogs “Checking the health of your Palm Tree” we discussed how to check on the health of your ailing palm tree determining if the Heart of the Palm Tree is still alive. In that particular case the Windmill Palm Tree was still alive and now I would like to recommend and few ways of improving the health of any Palm Tree whether it is ailing or not.
Fertilization
Most Palm Trees growing in our high desert climates and soils will suffer from a deficiency in any or all of these nutrients: Manganese, Magnesium, Potassium, Iron and Copper Sulfates. There are a couple of ways to feed you Palm Trees in order to get these nutrients into the system of the Trees.
- Fertilizer stakes
- Water soluble fertilizer
- Granular fertilizer
- Automatic fertilizer injector system
Irrigation
Remember that Palm Trees like frequent water but they do not like frequent water when the soils are poorly drained! That’s why Palm Trees grow so well where the soils are sandy such as Palm Springs. So if you happen to live in any part of the valley where the soils have more clay, you will have to be especially diligent and aware of your watering schedules.
Pruning
Regular pruning of the dead or dying fronds will not only make your Palm Tree look better but it will concentrate more of the energy created by the fertilizing & watering to promote healthier new growth as well as preserve the health of existing fronds.

Improving Lawn health

This is a follow up on a post we did on how to avoid hot spots in your lawn especially during the transition from winter to spring as well as from spring to summer. In this post we will offer some more tips on taking your lawn care to the next level for those of you out there in the quest for the perfect lawn!
Aeration
Your lawn areas are under constant pressure from gravity, traffic, mowing etc.
Over time the soils beneath your lawn become compacted shutting off oxygen & water flow into the root zones of your lawn.
We advocate lawn aeration twice per year here in Southern Nevada, once in spring & once in the fall.
Fertilization
Of course fertilization, especially here in the Southwest States, is essential in promoting and maintaining lawn & any tree/plant health.
Our soils are devoid of any natural elements except of course the natural minerals occurring in the soils/water.
We recommend regular feeding of all lawn, trees and shrubs through at least one of several different methods.
- Fertilizer Injector Systems-Automatically feeds all of your yard through your irrigation system.
- Deep Root Feeding-Fertilizers are manually injected directly into the root zone of the trees/plants.
- Manual Application-Fertilizers are manually applied to lawns, trees & plants either in granular and/or water soluble forms.
